Our hearts go out to the residents of Lahaina killed and displaced by the wildfires earlier this month. The enormity of the loss and devastation is hard to comprehend and it is hard to imagine a response that could have avoided the crisis. There are however lessons to learn, and one is sadly typical in emergency response which is communication could have been better.
The post incident reports have not been issued yet, and the main priority is to help the survivors rebuild their home, lives and livelihoods. We wish the victims and those serving in the restoration effort the best during these trying times. If you would like to help, one fund we recommend is the Hawaii Community Foundation here. Please consider a gift to help and think about any gaps in your communication plan to learn from the tragedy in Hawaii.
